General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) Healthcare today at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2017, has announced the launch of Classican (gadoteric acid). This is in line of growing its family of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) options available to patients and radiologists.

Introduction of Classican

Classican is made in such a way that it can support effective visualisation of abnormalities in the brain, spine and associated tissues. This gadolinium based contrast agent will be provided together with GE Healthcare’s comprehensive support services and solutions to healthcare practitioners all over the world.

Effects of the new technology

The General Manager of Core Imaging for GE Healthcare Life Sciences, Emmanuel Linger insisted on the importance of radiologists to be able to make a contract media selection that is dependent on the uniques needs of individual patients. Gadolinium based agents are gold standard detection tools in MRI. They offer improved contrast between normal and pathological tissues hence leading to a more efficient and faster detection of abnormalities. The addition of Classican into the range of GE contrast comes only to make the work more efficient by adding to the quality and reliability of their services.

The growing demand for contrast media

Over the years, demand for contrast media has accelerated. This can be related to rapid procedural improvements in MR imaging, increased need of uninterrupted and sustainable supply. It also related to the need to satisfy the needs of individual patients undergoing diagnosis. The introduction of Classican in the European markets will take place across 2017. It is approved using the decentralized procedure with marketing procedure in Norway.
