Agilent Technologies Inc (NYSE:A) has announced that Dr. Peter Robinson as the recipient of the Agilent Thought Leader Award. The researcher was awarded because of his contributions to computational biology and clinical genomics. The award will include funding for his research efforts which will assist the researcher in furthering his work. The Agilent Thought Leader Award was conceived for the purposes of promoting advances in science by providing products, financial support, and expertise to the work of prominent thought leaders in the diagnostics, applied chemical markets, and life sciences fields.

Boon to humanity

After awarding Dr. Robinson, Agilent Technologies was confident that the award would be a positive contribution to humanity.

“Dr. Robinson focuses on the identification of enhancer mutations involved in various human diseases and conditions. His research will increase our understanding of the disease,” Agilent Technologies vice president and general manager, Genomics and Clinical Applications Division, and also the award’s executive sponsor, Herman Verrelst, said.

Upon receiving the award, Dr. Robinson expressed his gratitude and expressed hope that the award would enable him to test a hypothesis he is working on.

Dr. Robinson’s is mostly associated with the human phenotype ontology. He has also developed unique and novel methods of identifying gene diseases. He is an alumnus of Columbia University where he studied computer science and mathematics. He then went on to study medicine at another ivy league, the University of Pennsylvania. His training as a pediatrician was completed in Berlin, Germany at the Charite University Hospital. His largest body of research was also conducted at the Charite University Hospital. At present, he is a professor of computational biology in Farmington, Connecticut at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine.
