Facebook, Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) & Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) terms of services do not fulfill the demands of the EU says European Commission. According to EU, the new changes made by these two social media giants do not follow its demands to protect consumers. The commission said that the social networks have failed to properly relate to the users the reason for the removal of content and the right to terminate their accounts on their respective social media platforms.

Moreover, both the companies have not yet made it clear how quickly they will be dealing with the requests from the authorities for taking down harmful content. Google, on the other hand, has made appropriate changes on Google+ which according to the commission are in line with its demands. However, the commission is indeed annoyed because both Twitter and FB have failed to fully comply with the demand despite taking some positive steps.

According to the European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality, Vera Jourova, she is pleased that the enforcement of EU rules for protecting consumers by national authorities is showing results as some companies are taking steps to make their platforms safer for consumers. Jourova, however, lamented that it is unacceptable as there are still companies not completing it and taking so much time to do it.

Facebook & Twitter Failing To Fulfill Their Responsibilities

The Commission has also some positive things to say. Last month EU commented that the social networks have made a commendable job by removing hate speech in a timely manner and also properly informed the consumers that Twitter, Facebook, and other sites can be taken to the court in EU and not California. The EU said that apart from these crucial issues, the other pressing matter is the growing number of massive scams and that Twitter and Facebook have still failed to fulfill their responsibilities there.

Facebook tried to clear its front by saying that it has long had tools in place for informing people about content removals and is planning to expand these tools in the later part of 2018.
