Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (NASDAQ:MRVL), one of the leading producers of networking , storage and connectivity semiconductor solutions has announced that it has integrated the industry-first 88Q5050 secure automotive Ethernet switch into the NVIDIA®DRIVE™ Pegasus platform which is sued in autonomous vehicles. This makes it the first solution available commercially to be embedded with security built into the core.
The company’s secure switch is able to handle several applications with several gigabits for OEM car manufacturers so as to deliver an in-car network which supports cameras, sensor fusion, safety and diagnostics. The embedded security technology is helpful in preventing vehicles from cases of cyberattacks which can compromise a safe and smooth driving experience.
The NVIDIA DRIVE Pegasus system has been made in such a way that it can handle Level 5 driverless cars and calculate more than 320 trillion operations in one second. The platform integrates sensor fusion; deep learning and surround vision so as to allow one understand what’s going on around the vehicle. The Marvell 88Q5050 layer 2 is built with secure IP which enables the safe and fast transmission of data for the connected vehicles.
Automotive Ethernet has been purposely designed to solve the problem of increasing risk of cyberattcks and is very secure compared to previous connectivity protocols that have been used in cars. The Marvell 88Q5050 solution uses a deep packet inspection (DPI) engine plus a trusted boot functionality which ensures a robust and trusted security level. It has a switch which supports both whitelisting addresses and blacklisting on all the Ethernet ports to further boost its security particular against denial of service attacks.
The Marvell is AEC-Q100 certified and meets the rigorous quality standards of the industry and can withstand harsh environments. It supports several integrated 100BASE-T1 PHYs and 1000BASE-T1 interface in addition to connecting with Marvell’s previously announced 88Q2112 1000BASE-T1 PHY.
Ina statement, Marvell executive vice president of Sales and Marketing Thomas Lagatta said 88Q5050 is the company’s latest launch to the market and the latest addition its automotive portfolio of wired as well as wireless network solutions. He added that it has been designed to prevent compromises to data and malicious attacks.
