Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is increasingly making new and improving features to its apps in the Android and iOS markets so as to serve its monthly mobile users who comprise of about 82% of the company’s traffic. Below are five cool changes on the app:
Connect
The connect tool or as we call it “newbie” allows new users to Twitter to get an idea of how twitter works by suggesting new people to follow based on your interests, publications, brands, location or contacts by allowing you to automatically sync your phonebook to your account. It is easily accessible by going to Settings on the app then Connect.
Groups
Twitter’s group feature works similarly to other social network groups like WhatsApp of Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB). The group feature allows one to create or subscribe to a group where by you can chat/ send image-gifs to users within the group.
Access to this feature is easy, simply search for a user’s Twitter handle, tap the message icon usually located next to the profile picture, a chat window will appear. Navigate to the menu section and add people.

Save mobile data
As like all social media platforms Twitter is as data intensive application. Video streaming can easily deplete the data limits be it on 3G or 4G if videos are set at auto play which is incidentally the default setting. Changing this can be done through Settings-Data-Video then autoplay.
While using slow networks the app allows you to disable images by navigating to settings then data and disable image preview in timeline.
Custom notifications
The app sends notification/ updates to keep users up to date with the latest news or tweets from following persons. Twitter has further given the user two ways to filter content notifications: Quality filter gives the user control of the kind of tweets they receive and also filters duplicated and automated tweets. Activated by navigating to settings-Notifications-Quality Filters. The second option Tweets, activated by navigating to settings-Notifications-Mobile notifications-Tweets, allows users to fully control the notifications one receives to only alert you when select groups or followers tweet
Dark mode
The Dark mode feature is aimed at minimizing the brightness of the screen therefore lowering the power consumption. This feature works best at night or in dark places were the light from the smartphone screen’s white background is too bright and puts train on the eyes. By enabling this mode the app background changes to grey while the text changes from black to white. It is easily accessible in Settings-> Dark mode.
