Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:CHTR) has debuted a new development to its multiscreen app labeled the Spectrum TV. The new update is able to accommodate an authenticated in-home TV Everywhere app.

Qualities of the app

The Smart TV is designed to be able to provide unified experience on mobile, computers and other connected devices. The app allows access of up to 300 live channels. It also provides access to 25,000 free and subscription VOD titles in a variety of platforms anywhere at home such as Android, Xbox One, Samsung Smart TV, iOS, Kindle Fire, Roku and web through www.SpectrumTV.com. It gives viewers the best combination of flexibility and more varieties on a range of devices.

The beneficial acquisition of two MSOs

Charter follows Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) as the largest cable MSO in the U.S. It is listed in the NASDAQ stock exchange platform under the code CHRT. The launching comes just after the company acquired two big cable multi-service operators (MSOs) going by the names Bright House Networks (BHN) and Time Warner Cable (TWC). The acquisition played a great role in boosting the company to its current position. Both had been ranked in the top ten largest cable companies before the acquisition. Time Warner cable had been ranked the second largest cable firm in terms of revenue in the U.S. while Bright House Networks acquired the sixth position. The new TV was developed with the aim of unifying the viewing experience of the MSOs on a single platform.

More advantages of the acquisition

The two MSOs have been very beneficial to Charter Communications. They have played a great part in geographical expansion as well as cost synergies. This in turn has boosted the company’s bottom line as well as free cash flow. The debut of the new TV app is just another indication of the success of the integration process.

Setbacks

The company has faced a few setbacks recently. TWC has been fined $139.8 million for going against digital telephone service norms. It was also charged for intentionally breaking 5 patent for Voice over Internet Protocol. These may have painted it in the bad light but the company is hopeful that it will recover soon from the losses and back to the core business.
