The holiday shopping season is within the vicinity. It is for this reason that both Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) are splashing out the announcement about their products as they seek for everyone’s attention. Microsoft is expecting to make the best use of its October 26 Windows event in New York. The company has declined to reveal the details of the event, but the little that is known is that the primary focus will be on the Windows operating system.

Google and Apple have already had the launches of their products hence all eyes are now on Microsoft. However, it is not likely that the event will dwell on new hardware.

So what is the story behind Microsoft’s event?

One side of a rumor has it that the event will be a platform for unveiling the Surface PC. However, Microsoft has kept its supply chain locked down; hence there is nothing much known about this product. Other than a couple of shots of a keyboard and mouse, the manufacturer has also kept what they know under lock and key. There also suspicions that the Surface PC could feature ties to the HoloLens, which apparently everyone wants but very few can afford.

Another report by ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley indicates that the company will also be showcasing a product known as Cardinal, which will operate as an all-in-one PC. Still information on its operations in the real world is not known although Windows Central says that it is big enough to be used as a display or as a desk. Foley outlines that it will be sold in a variety of different screen sizes, from as little as 21 inches to as much as 27 inches.

Microsoft could also trot out the highly anticipated Surface Phone.

It shall not be a surprise if Microsoft decides to add another device to its lineup of what it is rumored to be launching. There will be no Surface Pro 5 or Surface Book, and the rumored Lumia follow-up has been pushed back to 2018. However, looking at how the company has put its acts together, the long-rumored Surface Phone is likely to be present.

Nonetheless, the big part of the event is expected to be about Windows 10, but there will be no focus on Microsoft Office.
