Altria Group Inc (NYSE:MO) has increased its stakes in the well-known beer company Anheuser-Busch InBev SA-NV (ADR) (NYSE:BUD). Atria has a wide range of subsidiaries, including Phillip Morris, Smokeless Tabaco Company, Michelle Wine Estates and much more.

As of the current moment, Atria has approximately 10.2 percent ownership stake of AB InBev. The breakdown of this ownership extends to the shares that the company just invested into. The new shares account for approximately 12 million shares in the company. These shares were purchased by Atria between October 11, to October 21.

The reason behind the increased ownership for Altria

Altria announced the intention to create diversified streams of income, so as to ensure that the company is able to boast both a sustainable and consistent financial performance. Through acquiring more than 10 percent of the company, Altria is entitled to the foreign tax credit.

Due to this constant effort to ensure that revenue streams remain constant for the Tabaco company, and per acquisitions and investments that the company makes, analysts predicted a revenue of $5.11 billion by the end of this quarter. This is an increase of 2.7 percent from last year.

These credits are in regards to the dividends that Altria receives from AB InBev. This is the same method that Altria opted for in their ownership stakes of SABMiller before AB InBev acquired the company.

Additional acquisitions that were made by AB InBev

Before this investment from Altria, AB InBev invested into acquiring one of the company’s largest competitors. The total value of the acquisition deal between AB InBev and SABMiller is $103 billion. This deal was finalized on October 10.

Prior to the merger, Altria had been one of the largest shareholders in SABMiller, which can be speculated as another reason why the company is working on incrementing its total ownership of AB InBev.

Currently, Altria’s main operations circle around operations involving the development, processing, and retailing of cigarettes and cigarette-like technology, such as electronic cigarettes. This movement by the company suggests that they are working on their strategy to separate revenue incomes through acquiring different markets.
