Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), in its recent letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), said that the company has “invested heavily” in the project concerning self-driving cars. The letter was sent to the US transport regulators by The Product Integrity Director of the company, Steve Kenner.

In his letter, he worded about the company’s inclination towards knowledge regarding the automation and machine learning of self driving cars. He also wrote that the company was excited regarding the impending aspects of automated systems, which also included transportation.

No detailed description about company’s plan on the project was offered. Nevertheless, the letter did mention the project’s “significant societal benefits.”
