Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google has embraced direct competition with Uber Technologies, the pioneer of the ride-sharing industry, which is apparently experiencing rampant growth. The tech giant has strategized on how it will grow its ride-sharing market. To set what seems like a collision course, Google will be launching its Waze navigation app across several cities in the US.

The crowdsourced navigation app is already available in Google’s home country of Israel. It is also in San Francisco and the Bay Area and will now be moving into the Latin American markets. According to Waze boss Noam Bardin, the expansion is significant because it is expected to pull together Waze’s carpool ambitions, which seems to have taken forever to achieve.

But how different is Waze Carpool from the likes of uberPOOL and other rivals?

One of the most notable differences is in the prices. Waze’s trip that costs a mere $4.50 will be $10.57 and $12.40 for UberPool and Lyft Line respectively. Note, this is for the same distance.  Waze drivers will also get a $0.54 per mile from the rider, which means they will not have to rely on Waze as their main source of income.

Google is optimistic that with careful attention to its new endeavor, it will eventually roll out in the limited markets. This will result in the addition employers and transit partners who will be encouraged to use the service.

Google’s Waze Carpool service would end up being more appealing than competing services

Waze Carpool service may at first have to struggle with the prevailing competition given that the industry is somewhat so robust. Nonetheless, there is optimism that it will be able to connect more commuters. However, it must remain focused instead of incentives.

There is a lot the service could achieve including the reduction of the actual numbers of cars on the road. In case a majority are those seeking for professional ride-sharing services. Google and Uber have been rivals but it is seemingly clear that their rivalry will increase with the new development.
