Baidu Inc (ADR) (NASDAQ:BIDU) chief scientist Andrew Ng has announced he will be resigned from the company. Ng exists the Chinese search engine company after three years at the helm of its augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) projects.

Ng, who revealed his resignation in a blog post on Medium, an online publishing forum did not reveal his next step after resigning. He instead said he will carry on with his research and entrepreneurship in artificial intelligence field. “As the principal architect of Baidu’s AI strategy, I am proud to have led the incredible rise of AI within the company,” he said in the post.

Ng’s exist comes at a time when Baidu is consolidating its effort and focus and embracing cutting edge technology so as to jumpstart its ever shrinking profits. It also comes at a time when the company just finalized the hiring of a top Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) executive Qi Lu to oversee the company’s shift to artificial intelligence.

Last month Baidu reported a second consecutive drop in its quarterly revenue which is largely attributed to a crackdown by the government on healthcare advertising.

Baidu hired Ng in 2014 from Stanford University where he was a professor of computer science and founder of the elite Deep Learning team by Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL). Ng is also the co-founder of Coursera, an online learning startup.

Baidu in January implemented a suggestion fronted by Ng and opened an AR lab in Beijing.
